The average person has an intelligence quotient of 100. An unsourced claim gives O. J. Simpson’s IQ as 89. Marilyn vos Savant has been cited in the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest measured IQ of 228, a number that can be sourced back to Marilyn vos Savant. But Savant’s gifts to mankind’s progress include a “Dear Abby” style newspaper column, and a few books mostly compiled from this column. Here are eight reasons why your IQ really doesn’t matter all that much.

Extremely high scores are routinely inaccurate. 180 on the Standford-Binet is typically the top of the scale, and anything measured over it has few precedents for comparison and should be taken with a grain of salt. Suffice to say, the test-taker has a high degree of adaptability, versatility, and fast retention of information. But is a 186 “smarter” than a 176?

Children are mean. They require maturity to grow out of this, and though good parenting is essential, it really only stops with age. This is why parents are usually told that it is a better idea not to inform their children of their IQs. If it’s even one point below the arbitrary average of 100, the child will feel inferior. If it’s well above average, the child will likely lord it over his peers. If it is average, the child will probably still feel inferior.

The collecting of GUINNESS® memorabilia is a fascinating pastime. An abundance of advertising material has been produced on behalf of this wonderful brand, some of it dating back to the 18th century. And with so much material to find, it's hardly surprising that new and previously unseen 'guinntiques' turn up on a regular basis. Some worth pennies/cents, others thousands of pounds/dollars. You just never know - and that's the fun and excitement.

Many collectors limit their collection to a certain area - Waiter Trays or Playing Cards perhaps. Others take the plunge and acquire all they come across bearing the famous brand name 'GUINNESS'.

And why not. you can always trade your unwanted GUINNESS® items for a 'guinntique' more suited to your own collection!

Findings from a US-based study seem to support the idea that people with a high IQ get bored less easily, leading them to spend more time engaged in thought.

And active people may be more physical as they need to stimulate their minds with external activities, either to escape their thoughts or because they get bored quickly.

Probably better known as WCW wrestler Raven, Levy studied criminal justice at the University of Delaware and originally wanted to be a lawyer. He has a reported IQ of 143.

Star of over 250 hardcore adult movies, Carrera has an IQ of 156. Before her successful porn career, at the age of 13 she played piano at Carnegie Hall and later attended Rutgers University.

Jeffrey is a young actor who does a lot of voiceover work. At age 6, he was given an IQ test and tested within the 99th percentile, making him a certified genius.

So, this story is popping up everywhere!  A PhD student at Harvard submitted a dissertation claiming there is a measureable, identifiable, quantifiable correlation between race and IQ.  The dissertation was accepted by Harvard, and the degree conferred on Jason Richwine in 2009.

The research is making the news now because Richwine cited his own findings in an immigration bill he co-authored, urging policy makers to consider refusing Hispanic immigrants, because “even after several generations, [they] had lower IQs than non-Hispanic whites”.

The reasons not to give IQ tests to young children are compelling.  As the Youth & Education Ambassador for Mensa® , I receive inquiries every day (sometimes with accompanying videos) from parents (and grandparents) wanting to know how to get a young child tested.

Mensa allows youth fourteen and over to take the Mensa Admissions Tes t, and it accepts testing done outside of Mensa by schools or psychologists, but it does not test young children.

Although you might think Mensa would have a vested interest in having people test young children so they could join the organization, it actually takes no opinion.  I, however, do.  These opinions are mine alone.

I was on the committee for our 35th, 40th and 45th. We told the school office each time; date, place, cost, telephone number, postal address, e-mail address of the contact person. Now, granted I have an IQ of 142, but most other classes have one or two people with stratospheric intelligence on their committee too. so, when it gets to be some multiple of 5 or 10 years after you graduated, call the school. Many schools have a link or tab for "Alumni" on their official web site; if yours does, it saves the phone call. Many classes have a facebook group or a Yahoo! group or a Google Group. If you Google "Abraham Lincoln High School Beloit 1982" (plus the state, if yours was in a town named Pleasant Hill or Lakeside or Riverbank or Springfield) you should find it. I think Facebook is the standard; I m pretty average, and I belong to five groups on it (one of them for my HS class) and no groups for Yahoo! or Google. Classmates.com, with their subscriptions, is as dead as those newspapers that still come out on paper, they just don t know it yet. If you or a classmate is very talented, you might be able to do something like this: http://www.cvhs67.org/home.htm http://www.tedpack.org/cvhs1966.html
